- HKRep Black Box (8/F Sheung Wan Civic Centre)
- 09.03.2024 - 24.03.2024
Can a smattering of art vanquish fate hung by a thread?
During a “fake” renaissance era, four relatively accomplished “Westerners” befriend each other finding camaraderie. Though lost in their ways, they drift through life with a smattering of art. They then decide to emulate the ancients in swearing a blood oath: “We ask not the same year, month and day of birth; but wish to die on the same year, month and day”. Unfortunately, one of them dies on the spot, so their oath is now a curse...
Up-and-coming playwright Hui Chun Pong uses mockingly twisted plotlines in an alternate reality to posit the question “What is art?” At the same time, he also reflects on the struggles of creative talents in our world today. Hui’s Twists and Turns was presented in The Open Platform in 2018, and most recently, he has extended his horizons to film and television, accruing both power and experience. The Bucket promises to be a theatrical outing in which every word counts in the playwright’s trademark black humour.
